Day 3 Baton Rouge to Schulenburg TX

Well day three is almost in the books. I left Baton Rouge this morning heading for a Walmart in Houston, but I got to Houston way too early to stop. I kept on driving and looking for a rest stop. These states out here don’t believe in putting very many rest stops on their interstate highways. I finally found one and it is just over a hundred miles from my campsite there. After staying at the rest stop for about an hour I wimped out and decided that I needed an electrical hookup so that I could have some heat for the night. I checked the Good Sam’s book and found an RV campground that was only about 10 miles away in Schulenburg, TX. Now I’ll be nice and toasty tonight.

Driving on I-10 in Louisiana was interesting. First, I drove on the third longest bridge over water in the country. Amazingly the two bridges that are longer are also in Louisiana. I also found out what the Cajun bands do with their washboards when they are done with them. They pave their interstates with them.

There was a place that I stopped at west of Baton Rouge. It is called Atchafalaya National Heritage Area. I watched a short 4-minute video about it, and I think that I would like to come back and spend time there. They have a lot to do. Everything from boating, kayaking, canoeing and bike riding to wildlife exploring.

On Tuesday it will be a short drive to San Antonio so I should be able to walk around some and explore. I hope to get some night pictures of the river walk while I’m there. I listened to a podcast that my son sent to me about San Antonio, the Alamo and the missions there. The missions sound really interesting so I will be going to them.
