I spent the day driving along the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) CA Hwy-1. What a beautiful drive. I have driven up and A1A in Florida and there are beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean but nothing tom rival the drive on PCH. I went as far as McWay Falls and felt like I had to stop at every pull-out that I came upon. As a matter of fact, I was talking to one couple about the and jokingly made a comment to them about stopping so often and told them that I would see them in a half mile and they laughed. Sure enough we saw each other at the next pull-out. The only problem that I had as a photographer was that I wish that there were sometimes where the road was down a sea level so that I could get pictures looking up at the cliffs. But there is no way that the state of California would be able to do that. There is one place that I was able to get down to the beach. That was at Pfeiffer Beach and there were no cliffs to photograph. The road down and up is very narrow with few pull-outs. It gets really touchy when you meet a vehicle coming in the opposite direction. Especially when you are driving a Ford Expedition like I am. On the drive I managed to get two iconic pictures. One of the Creek Bridge and the other one of McWay Falls. When I was researching the Pacific Coast Highway several people online said that it should be driven from north to south. I didn’t understand that since it is a two-lane road. But now that I drove it, I understand. It’s because most of the pull-outs are on the ocean side of the highway and it is easier to leave and get back onto the road. To get the images I have used 3 frame bracketing and the shutter speed is between 1/1000 and 1/1250 sec and the f stop ranges from f/5.0 and f/8.0. Once I upload the pictures I do minimal processing in Adobe Lightroom. All pictures a sharpened and then the basic adjustments are made.
