Newport, OR Yaquina Lighthouse
May 21, 2019
Today I went Newport, OR. It was a short drive from Lincoln City and that is where Yaquina (yah-KWIH-nah) Head Lighthouse is. At 93 feet, its tower is the tallest on the Oregon coast. The setting is beautiful. It reminds me of some of the lighthouses in Maine. The lighthouse stands 162 feet above sea level. It was first illuminated in 1873 and is still operational today. It overlooks a bay that had several harbor seals with pups. The lighthouse is part of Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This was an easy day for photography. The sunlight was even across the board. I was able to set my camera using ISO 200, a shutter speed of 1/800 sec and the f-stop was f/8.0. The only thing that changed was my focal length which ranged from 28mm to 300mm. The only slight problem I had was when I was trying to take pictures of the seals and pups. I enjoyed the day and was able get a lot out of the coast and lighthouse
