Tucson Day 1 – Saguaro NP

The drive from Lordsburg NM to Tucson was short and really nice. All along I kept seeing these mountains with white puffy clouds laying right on the peaks with a bright blue sky behind them. The sky really makes the mountains and clouds stand out. I wanted to stop and take some pictures, but it was on I-10 and I didn’t feel comfortable just pulling off on the side of the highway. More importantly I didn’t feel comfortable pulling back on to the highway! I got into Tucson around 11:30 AM today and had no problem finding the KOA campsite. Once I got registered and got my trailer set up it was off for my first day in Saguaro National Park. The west park is only about 20 minutes from the campsite and once you get into the park the scenery is spectacular. As I was driving and looked at the thousands of saguaro cacti all around me; it looked a huge army of giant men were guarding the mountains behind them. I don’t believe that the US Calvary and American Indians ever fought each other on horseback amongst those cacti because the cactus needles would have defeated both sides. I found some places that I want to go to at sunrise and other places to go at sunset. The light just before and just after sunset was really good, but unfortunately Mother Nature didn’t cooperate. She removed the thin clouds from over the mountains, so I had almost a bald sky. You need some clouds to really light up the sky. You can do all the planning that you want. Then you can only hope that Mother Nature liked your plan and she made the same plans.
