Hoh Rainforest Hall of Mosses
June 16, 2019
There I go again. I listened to the weather forecaster and he said that it was going to be cloudy with a chance of rain. I said great. That kind of weather is perfect to photograph the Hoh Rainforest. So, I jumped into my car and drove the 85 miles to get there. Not only was it a long drive because most of it has a 35-mph speed limit but there was a lot of road construction and two areas with long stretches of one lane roads that I was stopped for a half hour at both of them. It took me about 3 ½ hours to get there. When I finally got there Mother Nature attacked again. There was not a cloud in the sky. It was very bright and caused really bad contrast for photography. Well I had driven that far and wasn’t about to turn around and go back. I had to deal with it as best as I could. It meant taking several pictures of the same scene and adjusting my settings to get close to what I wanted. The important word here is “close”. Where I was is called the Hall of Mosses. It is a beautiful area, but I would have been happier with just a cloudy day and even better with rain. Rain makes the green foliage jump out at you. I spent about an hour and a half walking the loop. There were places where I just sat down on a log to rest and enjoy the scene.
